Part Time In-House Lawyer (20 hours per week)

Our client is seeking an experienced Lawyer to join their team on a part time basis, this role reports into the Managing Director. The hours for this role are either three full days per week or four hours per day, five days a week. In this role you will play an integral part in our clients’ continued development and support the on-going business and growth agenda for the region. You will be expected to work simultaneously on a variety of projects and activities while engaging in all departments and should possess the ability to engage with senior stakeholders, including the Board of Directors. Description:
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing commercial agreements to support core business activities
- Advising business units on legal risk management associated with core business activities
- Coordinating the registration of intellectual property rights including, but not limited to, patents, trademarks, copyrights, licenses and know-how. Interacting with the other departments within the company to ensure that transactions, contracts and policies are compliant with legal, regulatory and, generally, corporate policies
- When authorized, coordinating with and managing external counsel; inclusive of discussing and negotiating scope of work, engagement letters, fee structures and managing deliverables
- Maintaining corporate legal agreements, supporting documents, share registers, contracts, Directors and Committee member registers and other documents as required
- Acting as the liaison between the management, the Board and various Board mandated committees
- Coordinate the scheduling of board meetings, including distribution of Board documents/packages and recording minutes of meetings, drafting and circulating resolutions as required and consistent with best practices of corporate governance
- Advising the Board on the best industry practice with respect to corporate governance
- Establishing systems and procedures which ensure accurate and up to date record keeping and corporate filings for all group entities
Criteria:
- 5+ years’ general legal experience is required
- Legal experience in the financial services sector would be an advantage, however it isn’t essential
- Accreditation by a law society or bar association
- Articulate, clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Strong legal research and drafting skills
- Diplomacy, tact and discretion and the ability to influence and advocate both within the company and when dealing with third parties
- Highly organized, with strong process orientation; results orientated and team player
- Hands on approach to legal and company secretary matters and responsibilities
- Ability to act autonomously and under pressure
- A law degree is essential, from a leading legal jurisdiction like the UK or US would be an advantage
- Fluent Arabic would be an advantage but is not essential
- Must currently reside in the UAE
